The National EEA Strategy and Action Plan was endorsed by Commonwealth, state and territory environment ministers on 27 April 2018. To oversee the implementation of the strategy, an interjurisdictional steering committee has been formed with representation from the following government agencies:

- The Australian Bureau of Statistics
- The New South Wales Department of Planning, Industry and Environment
- The Queensland Department of Environment and Science
- The South Australian Department for Environment and Water
- The Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning
- The Western Australian Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
- The Australian Capital Territory Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment
- The Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries. Parks, Water and Environment
- The Northern Territory Department of the Chief Minister
