Practical Guidance Notes for Urban Ecosystem Accounting (June 2021)
The Practical Guidance Notes for Urban Ecosystem Accounting provide practical insights into lessons learned from existing urban ecosystem accounts projects across Australia.
The Guidance Notes are intended for urban ecosystem account developers and compilers seeking to understand how to resolve some of the practical issues that might be encountered when developing accounts. While these Guidance Notes follow the process of developing an urban ecosystem account in alignment with the SEEA-EA framework, they are not intended to provide detailed guidance according to a step-by-step process but rather a collation of notes on the practical experience of Australia jurisdictions in exploring the development of urban ecosystem accounts.

There are differences in jurisdictional priorities and datasets and diversity of urban environments across Australia, which requires flexibility in the process of developing urban ecosystem accounts. The document is a first iteration of guidance on urban ecosystem accounting in Australia.
The Guidance Notes are consistent with the technical guidance and standards of the United Nations System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (UN SEEA)
Urban Ecosystem Accounting in Australia Working Group (URECAA)
The Guidance Notes were developed by the working group on Urban Ecosystem Accounting in Australia (URECAA), established by the Environmental-Economic Accounting (EEA) Interjurisdictional Steering Committee (IJSC). This working group was formed in 2020 to share their collective experience in developing urban ecosystem accounts within the public sector across Australia and help guide the development of consistent and comparable urban ecosystem accounts across the country. The working group has concluded its task and ceased to operate.
